Anniversary of the Founding of the ACP - Statement
The ACP celebrates its first anniversary on June 30. On that date last year, a small group gathered at a live-in event on the south coast of NSW, to map the way ahead for the revival of the Communist movement in Australia. The activists involved in this pioneering work were not deterred by the size of the gathering, however small, the energy was overflowing. Most Communist parties started from very humble beginnings to change the course of history. The founding gathering of the original Communist Party in this country, the centenary of which takes place this year on October 30, was also a small affair. It went on to lead many historic struggles and make major gains for the Australian working class and show remarkable international solidarity. The ACP was founded to revive the best traditions of that party and press on to socialist revolution.
The ACP was founded in response to the Communist movement of this country’s slide into reformism and revisionism. It was believed that this ideological deviation was behind the resistance shown by the CPA to efforts to activate the membership and use resources to wage a concerted struggle and serve the people more generally. The results achieved by the ACP vindicate this judgement. Following the congress the comrades of the ACP went to work! In just a year, the Party-affiliated Community Union Defence League now has street kitchens in four Australian capitals and has plans to steadily expand services to those hardest hit by the capitalist agenda and the current crisis. Members are tasked with carrying out the slogan “Serve The People” and throw themselves into serving the working class. The Party has also been able to take a prominent role in the Black Lives Matter protests, applying much needed input in the struggle. This would have been unimaginable without the establishment of the ACP, a coherent Marxist-Leninist party committed to being in the front ranks of the struggle.
The Party has recruited strongly, particularly among the young who are largely excluded from access to secure jobs, affordable education and housing. The energy the youth have brought into the party has been overwhelming and inspiring to say the least. They are tired of groups whose methods and activities start with words and end with words. They are quickly engaged with the work of the Party and unlike many organisations in which some may have worked with in the past, feel as though they are doing what they expected to be doing in a radical organisation. Their ideals are followed through in the practice of the party. Discussions and robust conversations are had with the ACP providing a sound, Marxist-Leninist education. The ACP can be pleased with its progress over the past year and looks forward to an even more successful one in the next twelve months.
