CFMEU Fined for Picketing
06/07/2022
The recent Federal Court decision to impose massive fines on the CFMEU South Australia, its secretary and a subcontractor dudded by a developer in Adelaide is trying to send a message. That message is “Don’t struggle to achieve justice, cop it sweet and, if you are thinking to take action, make sure it is ineffective.”
The lessons workers need to learn are that government authorities and courts that impose capitalist laws will go to great lengths to shore up corporate profits and that we must stay united in the face of attack.
If we fail to do this, we will see workers and their unions crushed by fines and even jail terms. This has happened many times before and will happen again and again in future if we don’t rally behind the victims of this aggression.
The ACP supports militant trade unionism and laments that, too often, unions buckle under the threats and bullying.
The CFMEU has played a very positive role in defence of its members and subbies ripped off by developers and deserves our support in these efforts.
